High Tide is the seventy-second issue of the Winx Club Comic Series.

Synopsis[]

The Winx must travel to Terramaris, a city that is in danger because it is very close to being submerged due to the melting of the ice. Tradition predominates in that place, but thanks to the help of a little magic and a young inventor, they will be able to solve the problem and remember the importance of education.

Plot[]

I72-1

The dams are nearing full capacity and the tides will overflow into the city any minute now!

At Alfea, Faragonda calls the Winx to her office and asks them if they know about Terramaris, a city between mountains that is almost at sea level. The principal explains that they started as a small village and now it is a big city, the problem is that they are at risk of sinking due to the rise in sea level, due to the melting of the ice caused by a greenhouse effect because of the high pollution. Faragonda explains that the Fortress of Light sent the witches there two weeks ago but they could not do anything, so now they send the fairies. Faragonda tells the Winx that they will leave that same afternoon, along with the Specialists. The girls begin to debate why they think they sent the witches, and Stella suspects that certain members of the The Fortress of Light Council had something to do with it, but Bloom stops her from making any more accusations.

I72-2

The Trix's lack of action and misbehavior infuriates the governor.

The Winx and the Specialists land on Terramaris, where they see the water level rising higher and higher. The governor receives them and tells them that they have not been able to reach an agreement despite having great experts because they fight among themselves over their absurd theories. Bloom asks where the Trix are, and they arrive at that moment. The governor comments to Bloom that they have done nothing but complain. Suddenly an alarm sounds, indicating that it will start to rain again. Stella confronts the Trix, stating that they did nothing, to which Icy replies that they managed to form more ice but it is not permanent, so it is useless. Bloom asks why they did not say anything, but Icy replies that they did not because they have many privileges that they did not have in Cloud Tower. The assembled experts of Terramaris continue to argue, so Bloom decides that the Winx will spring into action.

I72-3

Kepler's idea of floating land and Flora's bio-spell provides a solution to the ocean reclaiming its land.

Sky offers to take them on the ship, but Bloom rejects him, replying that they will fly. The Winx transform and travel throughout the city until they reach some crops. From the air they see some farmers lighting bonfires and warn them to put out the fire. The farmer answers confusedly that every year they do it to burn some plants, to which Bloom explains that the fire releases a lot of carbon dioxide and that enhances the greenhouse effect, raising the temperature and that is why the sea level increases. The farmer believed that it was the factory chimneys that were polluting, but Tecna explains to him that, if everyone lit small bonfires, the polluting effect would be much greater.

I72-4

Astrofarne's "message" summoned by the Winx's spell to convince the professors to listen to Kepler's ideas.

Flora examines the plants and takes a few seeds to study it. The farmer believes that there is the problem, they never studied the greenhouse effect and now it is too late. The Winx fly back to the main building, along the way they debate because they are in a difficult situation. The governor's advisor receives them and tells them that now that they are his guests, they will stay in rooms prepared for them. He tells them that they were invited to an official dinner the next day and leaves. Stella wants to relax a bit, but Bloom retorts that she does not want to disappoint the citizens of Terramaris like the Trix, so the Winx begin the search. Night falls and they still have not found anything. Suddenly, someone knocks on the door of the Winx's room. It is Lidia, the secretary, who tells them that she might know someone who can solve the sea level problem.

I72-5

Kepler is eagerly brought in to discuss his ideas.

Lidia takes them to a laboratory, where they see a young man whom she introduces as Kepler. The man explains that his solution would be to design floating fields and farms on the water, built with cement hollow inside in such a way that it can float. He even adds that they can cover it with fertile soil and that it can be planted and cultivated on top, also building houses where people can live. Kepler comments that he has a small problem, at the extremes, the earth falls off and could fall into the water due to the strong waves. Flora exclaims that she has the solution for that, using the seeds of the plant she collected, she can use it to surround the portions of land. He tries it on the model, using a spell to make the plant grow only on the edges. Kepler accepts the idea enthusiastically, although he later becomes sad, stating that no one will listen to his idea. Lidia comments that it is because he failed the academy entrance exam twice, and that until they accept him, they will not be able to get married or find a job.

I72-6

Kepler's ideas have been implemented and the problem has been resolved!

Kepler says that he does not like the academy's methods at all because its contents are old and redundant. Lidia adds that, according to the law, because he is not in the academy, the governor cannot even look at his idea. The Winx believe that it is a revolutionary idea and that people should listen to it, but Lidia counters that the academy has a lot of influence. Bloom asks where so much influence comes from, and Kepler answers that it is from the tradition of the founder, a certain Aristofarne. Bloom gets an idea and explains it to the Winx. The night of the official dinner arrives. The Winx enter the gala transformed. The governor receives them, asking if they have any solutions, to which Bloom confirms that they found the right spell but need space to perform it. The Winx perform a convergence, summoning the spirit of the academy's founder, Aristofarne. Everyone in the room is stunned, but Aristofarne explains that he was summoned to give them advice.

I72-7

The Trix's punishment for their misconduct: acquire high marks on their assignments that were initially waived.

He tells them that they must follow the instructions of Kepler, who is young and smart. The founder dissolves and Kepler appears nearby, to which the governor goes to talk to him without wasting a second. An hour later, Lidia informs them that Kepler's idea was accepted and that they will begin building the floating structures. Two months later, The Winx watch a program that talks about the revolutionary project of Terramaris, the Seantis lowlands. The presenter interviews Kepler, who explains that they will build floating schools, houses and even hotels, they will also manufacture, and that he will be the director of the new universities that they are going to build. Suddenly, there is a knock on the door and Faragonda appears, asking if they have seen the report and congratulating the Winx on their work. Bloom asks what has happened to the Trix, to which the principal responds that Griffin discovered that they did nothing and now they are forced to do all the tasks they did not do and that they must repeat it until they get good grades. Faragonda laughs, commenting that she does not envy them.

Spells Used[]

  • "Show yourself and advise us. May the Grand Master of Tradition for many ideas solve this issue and give use the right information! Show yourself, Great Lord and give us guidance on who has the best idea to save the situation!" - Used by the Winx to call upon an image of Aristofarne to advise the Board of Professors to listen to Kepler's plan.
