Magical Costumes is the one-hundred and thirteenth issue of the Winx Club Comic Series.

Synopsis[]

While perusing through the Gardenia Plaza, the Winx find themselves in the midst of some sort of convention as just about everyone is decked out in cosplay. They are quickly swarmed by a group of fans each in their own costumes designed to be almost identical to their Sirenix forms and, to everyone's surprise, these girls can use their Sirenix powers. The Winx quickly learn that they got their costumes from a place called Judy's Bazaar and all costumes from there give the wearer the abilities of the character they are dressed as. To make sure that no one abuses such abilities, the Winx seek out the owner of the Bazaar, a young fairy named Judy, to get her to recall her costumes.

Plot[]

Logic Net(I113)R

Rachel shows off her powers.

At the Gardenia Plaza, the Winx are incredibly impressed by the cosplaying event as every is dressed in costumes. Bloom explains what cosplay is to her friends when they see their fans dressed as Tecna, Flora, Aisha, and Musa. Stella is a little upset that no one has dressed up like her and Bloom comforts her because does not see anyone dressed as her either. Then the cosplayers notice their idols and excitedly approach them, asking loads of questions. At one point, Rachel who is cosplaying as Tecna, figures it would be a great chance to show her powers. This confuses one of her friends because Rachel is not an actual fairy. A shocked Bloom then asks when she discovered her powers and Rachel goes on to explain it is somewhat complicated. She instead proceeds to demonstrate it with the Logic Net spell.

The Truth Behind Her Powers

After the dangerous incident, Rachel explains where her powers came from: her enchanted costume.

I113-1

Stella Cosplayer and Bloom Cosplayer enjoying their newly found powers and begin misusing them.

However, because she lacks experience in magic, the net starts shrinking and the sides are electrically charged. Rachel's friends start panicking and demand she frees them but she is not sure how. She then tries by blasting the net with Digital Attack and luckily, it frees them but the attack was not well controlled, causing the residual magical energy to spread onto a nearby train, forcing it to speed so fast that the railroad crossing signs are unable to close in time to prevent cars from getting ran over! The Winx act quickly, transforming into their Sirenix. Aisha forces the railroad crossing signs to lower, protecting the drivers. Flora uses her powers to stop the train.

I113-2

Judy sees the dangers her enchanted costumes caused.

After diverting the danger, Bloom immediately scolds Rachel for the danger she caused and that she needed to learn to control her powers. That is when Rachel explains that her powers are actually from her enchanted Sirenix costume, she herself has no innate magical powers. This surprises the Winx because the costume appeared so simple and yet is able to mimic the powers of the original hero. Rachel tells the Winx where she got the costume: Judy's Bazaar. This is incredibly dangerous at the hands of immature children who will use their enchanted costumer's powers to do whatever they please without thinking. Bloom and Stella will speak to Judy about her costumes and convince her to stop producing them, while the rest ensure that those who are wearing the enchanted costumes do not cause any more problems.

Judy, Bloom Convergence - 113 Magical Costumes

Judy and Bloom converge their powers to remove the magic in the costumes.

At Judy's Bazaar, Bloom and Stella are not able to convince Judy to stop producing her enchanted costumes as she believes she helped make many kids' dreams come true. That is when Judy informs the two that she had just sold their Sirenix costumes to two people. This causes Bloom and Stella to panic, knowing how dangerous light and fire magic can be. The two quickly leave the store and are blinded by the spell Light Diamond, which is coming from a Stella Cosplayer who is overjoyed by the power she now possesses. She and her friend, who is cosplaying as Bloom, are enjoying their newly found powers and misusing them, not caring about the dangers they are putting people in.

I113-3

The costumes' magic is gone.

Judy, who had been watching this unfold, finally realizes how dangerous her enchanted costumes are and quickly asks Bloom to help her remove the enchantment on all her costumes. Judy is very remorseful of her actions and recalled all her costumes, ensuring there are no more traces of magical energy in them. However, she does not feel that she should be using her powers anymore after all the danger she had caused. But Musa and Tecna both reassure and encourage her, telling her that she can learn to hone her powers at Alfea if she wants and that her talents should not go to waste. Judy thanks them for their kindness and aspires to be like them.
